Our proposals promote high levels of personal mobility without the need to resort to car use. The sustainable mix of uses proposed will keep many trips within the development and maximise opportunities for walking and cycling. The promotion of flexible live-work space and a balance between jobs and homes will further reduce the need to travel longer distances. A comprehensive network of foot and cycle paths will link key facilities, including streets with pedestrian and cycle priority, safe routes to school and car-free zones. This will place all day-to-day facilities within safe and convenient walking distance of new homes and will encourage strong links with nearby villages.
A new transport interchange will be created at an improved Elsenham railway station on the West Anglia Railway Line. Existing rail links to nearby communities and urban areas such as Cambridge, Stansted Mountfitchet, Bishop’s Stortford, London and Harlow will be reinforced through a new high frequency high quality bus service. This will provide orbital links with Stansted Mountfitchet, Bishop’s Stortford and Stansted Airport and will run throughout the proposed development placing all new homes within easy reach of bus stops.
This new public transport infrastructure will be supported by measures such as personal travel planning, real time information on public transport services, car clubs, green travel plans and Cycle to Work schemes to promote real and viable alternatives to the private car.
