Elsenham was identified by Government on a shortlist for Eco-towns as a potential location for an Eco-town of at least 5,000 dwellings in April 2008. In July 2009, the Government published its Planning Policy Statement on Eco-towns and announced four Eco-towns would be built in a ‘first-wave’ of the programme. The Fairfield Partnership’s proposals for north-east Elsenham was indicated in July 2009 as one of six possible ‘second-wave’ Eco-town sites. This ‘second-wave’ would be under construction by 2020.
The Planning Policy Statement: Eco-towns can be seen by clicking here.
Eco-towns will be small new towns intended to exploit the potential to create a complete new settlement and to achieve zero carbon development and more sustainable living using the best new design and architecture.
We first submitted an Eco-town Expression of Interest and accompanying technical reports to the Department for Communities and Local Government in October 2007.
